This morning at 9:30am I arrived with my favorite co-pilot DJ K0ntr0l to the 7 Stages Theater in Little 5 Points Atlanta. Written on the marquee appropriately read “Master of the Mix Season 2 Auditions.” We had both prepared our 2 minute sets for the judges yesterday, and truly for the past 14 years spinning records respectively under our belts. As we stood the heat that was unrelenting even in the shadow of the marquee, we communed with the other DJ’s who had come to battle it out. An hour later we entered the theater and began the process. There was an initial round where by we were to perform our set for the camera and an interviewer asked us questions about ourselves. I pulled my set off well and got advanced to the next round of the audition where I was to have an equally successful show in front of Kid Capri, DJ Marrs, and Rich Medina. The grueling day long wait was spent mostly outside in a tent that felt like 100 degrees. Moved around several times I was in a full sweat by the time it reached 3pm and it was finally my turn to do my thing for the judges. I walked through the back of the stage, mic’d up, laptop in hand, and ready to plug into their set up of 2 Technic 1200’s and a RANE 57 mixer. I started with the intro “Paid In Full” by Eric B. & Rakim then went right into “Ladies First” Queen Latifah. I worked in “Jam on It” by Nucleus then moved my tempo up and dropped “Run the World Girls” by Beyonce and scratched in “Light Up the Night” by the Black Eyed Peas. I was given some incredible feedback from these 3 master DJ’s who really appreciated my skills and were interested in hearing my story. It only added to the excitement to be informed by them that the only other person they had let through to the next round was the guy before me. I explained that they were referring to my boyfriend DJ K0ntr0l to which they were very amused! To follow the elation of his advancement, I was next to receive my golden ticket to the next level! Today was a great day! Not to mention I got to see one of my favorite people DJ Doc I also had the pleasure of meeting some very talented dudes,DJJaycee DJ Nab and DJ LV
