Most people identify me as a DJ and rapper, but what some of you may not know is that I have also been a make-up artist for NBC television for many years now. I began in Washington, D.C. where I worked on every political show on MSNBC & CNBC, my staple gig being with Chris Matthews on “Hardball.” Throughout my make-up career I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many amazing people with whom otherwise I would probably not cross paths. My journey has also included coming in contact with inflated egos often times unsubstantiated by intellect to validate such self-admiration. Due to over a decade in the business and bordering on disenchantment for rubbing shoulders with the talking heads and political figures of our time, I am seldom excited at the prospect of making up new faces. Today, that nearly indelible odyssey reached a screeching halt. Enter Rachel Maddow. I’ve been a long time viewer, admirer, and dare I say worshiper of this cerebral goddess. Do I gush? Perhaps. Do I exaggerate? Not in the slightest. I only reflect a direct translation of my bona fide recognition of a woman who is a scholar of everything enlightened, thoughtful, and contemplated with true reason and rationale. Only to be matched and possibly surpassed by absolute grace and unmitigated humility, is the force that Rachel Maddow is in the proverbial flesh. She is everything I could have hoped for and more. Someone who could easily rejoice in her own badass autonomy, she is lovely and self-deprecating in only the most charming way. In times when inspiration can be fleeting, when motivation can seem impermanent, my day comes to a close with a genuine sense of awakening. I have tapped into my own courage and tenacity to encounter tomorrow as a better woman that I was today. Thank you Rachel.
